Since opening our doors in 2018, Encore Theatre and Gallery has grown into a vibrant creative home where bold stories, powerful voices, and meaningful community connections come to life. What began as a vision for a space that celebrates stories from the African diaspora has evolved into a dynamic cultural hub for Birmingham,  one where art, dialogue, and creativity meet.

At Encore, we believe theatre is more than entertainment. It is reflection, celebration, conversation, and sometimes even healing. The stories we tell honor the depth and beauty of the African American experience while also inviting audiences of every background to engage with narratives that challenge, inspire, and connect us.

Encore was created by people who love this city deeply and believe in its potential. Our stage exists to uplift local artists, nurture emerging talent, and provide young people with a creative path forward. It is a place where families gather, where first-time theatergoers discover the magic of live performance, and where artists are given the freedom to tell stories that matter.

Today, Encore continues to expand its reach … presenting new works, cultivating community partnerships, and building a creative space where Birmingham’s artistic future can flourish.

While our work proudly centers African American voices and experiences, our mission has always been about connection rather than division. When people see themselves reflected onstage, when voices are heard, and when stories are shared, communities grow stronger.
