“Art is not just entertainment. It is a weapon in the struggle for freedom.”

— Paul Robeson

At Encore Theatre and Gallery, we live by these words — celebrating the transformative power of the arts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our mission is to uplift marginalized voices, cultivate creativity, and create a space where everyone belongs.

— A Letter From The Artistic Director

A home for transformative art.

— Dear Birmingham,

Marc Raby

Marc Raby

Artistic Director

Since 2018, Encore has been a home for transformative art, where stories from the African diaspora and beyond find their voice. We believe art is more than entertainment — it's a movement, a mirror, and a beacon for change. Through creativity and purpose, we've woven these stories into the cultural fabric of our city.

Encore Theatre and Gallery isn't just a theatre. It's a cornerstone of Birmingham — created by and for the people who live here. We exist to uplift powerful stories, cultivate local talent, and give young people a creative path forward. It's a space where families gather, where community grows, and where culture is preserved.

“Art is more than entertainment — it's a movement, a mirror, and a beacon for change.”

While our work proudly centers the African American experience, it is not about division — it's about inclusion. We believe that when people are truly seen and heard, communities become stronger. And when the arts thrive, everyone benefits — socially, emotionally, and economically.

Supporting Encore isn't about choosing sides. It's about investing in Birmingham's future — a future where more people are engaged, uplifted, and proud to call this city home.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating inclusion, empowerment, and the power of storytelling. Together, we are shaping a brighter, more connected future. Welcome to Encore.

Yours in story,

Marc Raby
